Declaration of War

Declaration of War
The War Cry, Toronto, January 28, 1899

Whereas, the condition under which peace could be concluded with King Beelzebub, of the powers of Evil – as fully set forth in the Proclamation of the Siege of 1898 – are not existent;

And Whereas, the attempts to destroy and damn immortal souls is still persisted in with unrelenting cruelty by the forces of darkness:

Now Therefore, I, Evangeline Booth, Commander of the Salvation Army Forces in this Territory, Declare that a state of War exists between the Kingdom of the Nethermost Regions and the Salvation Army;

And Furthermore, I, the said Commander of the Salvation Army Forces, proclaim herewith a Siege of the Fortress of Darkness, to commence on Sunday, January 29th, 1899, at 7 o’clock in the morning.

In Witness Whereof, I have set my hand and seal to this, this 28th day of January, 1899, at my Territorial Headquarters, Toronto. Evangeline Booth

Declaration of WarI pray that we will capture the same clarity of vision which Evangeline Booth had when recognizing where the real battle for the salvation of souls takes place! Here is a great example of how she “takes the battle to the enemies camp” in 1899!

Dare we declare war on the forces of darkness in 2013? There’s no metaphor here. This war is real.

Sound the battle cry! See, the foe is nigh;

Raise the standard high for the Lord;

Gird your armor on, stand firm every one;

Rest your cause upon His holy Word.

Refrain:

Strong to meet the foe, marching on we go,

While our cause we know, must prevail;

Shield and banner bright, gleaming in the light,

Battling for the right we ne’er can fail.

O Thou God of all, hear us when we call,

Help us one and all by Thy grace;

When the battle’s done, and the vict’ry’s won,

May we wear the crown before Thy face.

Rouse, then, soldiers, rally round the banner,

Ready, steady, pass the word along;

Onward, forward, shout aloud, “Hosanna!”

Christ is Captain of the mighty throng.
